All about Up The Fan
WHY'S IT CALLED 'UP THE FAN'?

Because during the show at some point, you can be assured of 'something' being thrown through a fan! It used to be a piece of fruit - a banana, a tomato etc. These days B&J enjoy throwing cakes through the fan.

Up The Fan (UTF) is an anarchic, unpredicable but funny 'mess'! Featuring recurring characters and even appearances by famous celebrities, it's a wonder Up The Fan can be made for the money it is. Jon told me one drunken night in Southampton it cost about five quid an episode!

BEN & JON

Dressed in their trade mark suits, B&J try to look as if they know what they're doing! Ben - tall and frizzy haired, tends to maintain some element of control during the show whilst all around is going wrong! Jon - short and deadpan, usually ends up in the middle of the chaos whether he likes it or not!

Inevitably, they both end up in some sort of 'jam' like the 'Bouncing Bomb!' episode.

CHARACTERS, CELEBRITIES AND 'ALL THAT JAZZ'...

Ben and Jon are often joined by special guests. In the past, they've included dare devils 'Captain Xtreme and Private Panic' (two inept bungling fools who very rarely pull off a 'stunt' successfully), Doctor Magnus Butcher (a corrupt mad scientist type) and regular Charles London - City Man (thinks very highly of himself. A 'ponce' bascially)!

Like a cheap version of  'Morecambe and Wise', celebrities have also guested, including Jane Asher, Bernie Clifton, Rod Hull & Emu (in possibly their last appearance), Nicholas Parsons, Cheryl Baker and, bizarrely, Antonio Fargas who played 'Huggy Bear' in 'Starsky and Hutch'!
